Overview
Our Gantry Type Ultrasonic Pipe Testing System for OCTG is a fully automatic CNC-controlled NDT system built for 100% full volumetric inspection of seamless and ERW oil pipes, casings and production tubing.
Fitted with high-performance ultrasonic transducer arrays, it delivers high-sensitivity identification of longitudinal cracks, transverse fissures, oblique flaws and laminar separations. Simultaneously, it enables highly accurate full-length wall thickness measurement in one inspection pass.
All inspection workflows and data logging strictly comply with leading industry standards API 5CT and API 5L, perfectly satisfying stringent quality control demands for OCTG manufacturers across the global oil and gas sector.

Working Principle
The machine operates on the ultrasonic pulse-echo technique. High-frequency ultrasonic waves (2–5 MHz) are generated by piezoelectric probes and transmitted into the pipe wall via water-coupling.
- No defect: Ultrasound travels through the wall and reflects from the inner surface, producing a back-wall echo.
- With defect: Waves reflect earlier at discontinuities (cracks, inclusions, laminations), generating a defect echo before the back-wall signal.
- The system calculates defect depth, size, and position based on echo time and amplitude, enabling accurate, repeatable, and high-speed inspection.
Our Core Advantages
- High‑precision detection for pipe body, thread and coupling, effectively identifies cracks, porosity, inclusions and other hidden defects conforming to API‑5CT standards.
- High‑speed on‑line non‑destructive testing, matches full‑line production rhythm without interrupting continuous OCTG manufacturing.
- Multi‑mode integrated inspection: combine ultrasonic, magnetic particle and eddy‑current testing to cover surface and subsurface flaws.
- Automatic data recording & real‑time report generation, traceable inspection records for quality audit and customer review.
- Intelligent alarm & automatic marking for defective tubes, reduces manual misjudgment and lowers human‑error risk.
- Stable performance for long‑hour heavy‑duty industrial operation, suitable for harsh pipe‑making workshop environment.
- Easy integration with existing OCTG production line, minimal modification required for on‑site installation & commissioning.
- Low maintenance cost, supports long‑term continuous running to guarantee overall line productivity.
